2013 – November Report

CHRISTMAS IS COMING……… HIBC Report By John Cushion

It is last chance time for Christmas “Bash” tickets. As reported last month a number of local companies have already chosen the event for their own Christmas Party but a few remaining  tickets are still available both on an individual and corporate basis. Any local firms still looking to treat their colleagues to a great night out should contact Haydens Garage on 02392 462660 or the following outlets who have kindly agreed to assist the Club.

Tickets are £25 which includes a choice of 3 course Christmas Fayre and entertainment to the ever popular 60s Group Out of the Shadows. As well as being a great night out, this is a major fund raising event for the Club and all net proceeds are devoted to the running of the Community Bus and other local causes.

Individual tickets are available from the normal local outlets. Competitively priced at £25, the evening includes a three course Christmas meal and dancing to the ever popular 60s band Out of the Shadows. As always, all net proceeds are used for local charitable causes.

Look out for Father Christmas and his helpers at in the Sandy Point area on 10th December when Club members will be joining forces with the local Lions to help pull Santas’s sleigh and again at Mengham shops on Thursday 20th December when members will be out with their collecting tins come rain, hail or shine. We never cease to be amazed at the generosity of Islanders particularly in these austere times but rest assured that every last penny raised goes to help needy causes on the Island.

The Piggies are on their way to Hayling and will be on their starting blocks in the Community Hall on the 9th November. Tickets for the third running of the HIBC Pig Race Night are now selling fast and a capacity race crowd is anticipated. The event is planned as a family night out with children welcome at the reduced price of £5 which includes a fish and chip supper. Adult tickets are priced at £8 which also includes the race card.

Pig Sponsorships are still available by contacting Club Secretary Malcolm Newness at secretary@hibc.org.uk and tickets are available from the following outlets. Please remember that all net proceeds go towards the running of the Community Bus and other worthwhile local causes.

On Saturday 28th September, the Club held its annual Ladies Night at Hayling Golf Club. Over 80 members, their ladies and guests enjoyed a wonderful meal and then danced the night away courtesy of DJ Malcolm Drew. Many thanks to Club stalwart John Cottle for arranging a superb event.

Earlier in September, members said a sad farewell to long term member Aksel Arneke who is returning to live in his native Norway. Aksel had lived on Hayling for the last 13 years and was a Club member for eight of those. Our very best wishes go with him and wife Ann. However, news on the membership front remains good with another new recruit, Brian Smith, who joined the Club in October.

The first performance of the Station Theatre’s latest production Nathan the Wise was enjoyed by over 100 senior citizens paid for by the Businessmens Club. Sponsorship of HIADS by the Club is a regular event and numerous productions have been enjoyed by large audiences over many years.

Plans are already being made for next year’s Annual Barbeque with the date set for Saturday July 12th July 2014.
